Why Is My Business Not Showing Up on Google?

0:00 / 1:50

The usual reasons are a missing or incomplete Google Business Profile, no website at all, a slow or poorly built one, or missing basics like page titles, descriptions and mobile support.

It is normally a combination of a few of these rather than a single fault.

What are the common causes?

Where should you start?

With the free fix. If you have no Google Business Profile, or it is half-filled, that is almost always the fastest win. Accurate hours, photos, the right category and a linked website noticeably improve your chances of appearing in local searches.

If you have a website, what should you check?

The basics, before anything clever. Many sites are invisible because they have no page title, no meta description, or were never submitted to Google with a sitemap. These are quick technical fixes, not redesigns.

How much do speed and mobile matter?

More than most people expect. Google favours sites that load quickly and work on phones, because that is where most searches happen. A beautiful site that takes eight seconds to load on a phone will often rank below a plainer, faster one.

What if the site is brand new?

Then a few weeks of nothing is normal, even when everything is set up correctly. Google needs time to discover and index new pages. That is not usually a sign something is wrong.

When is it genuinely competition?

Sometimes everything is correct, but competitors have older sites, more reviews or more content. This is the hardest case, and it takes ongoing content and SEO work rather than a one-time fix.

Questions, answered.

How long before a new website shows up?

A few days to a few weeks, assuming the basic SEO setup was done correctly.

Is a Google Business Profile enough on its own?

It helps a lot locally, but does not replace a website for broader visibility, including AI search.

Can I check whether Google has seen my site?

Search your exact business name plus your city. If nothing relevant appears, indexing may not be complete.

Is no website worse than a slow one?

Generally yes. A slow site can be found and improved; no site means there is nothing to show.
